How does Power Flush work?

The basic principle of the Power Flush system is to restore the complete circulation of water to your central heating system. As the diagram illustrates, the presence of black iron oxide sludge (also known as radiator sludge) can restrict the flow of water within central heating systems. This causes a number of problems and impairs the efficiency of the system.

Some of the problems caused by the build-up of sludge in a central heating system are listed below. Each of these require the use of the Power Flush system:

  • Cold Radiators: When sludge builds up inside a radiator, it restricts the flow of water preventing hot water from accessing all parts of the radiator.
  • Repeated Pump Failures: When the flow of water through pipes is restricted, the circulator pumps are forced to work harder. This increases wear on the pump that often leads to failure.
  • Boiler Noise: The scale deposits within your boiler can often turn as hard as cement. The circulation of this debris within your boiler can lead to loud banging.
  • Circulation Problems: When the water flow is disrupted, this often disrupts the transfer of heat exchange. As the flow is disrupted, your boiler is at risk of overheating and breaking down.

When the power flush process begins, a powerful unit is connected to the pump, boiler, and radiator. This can thoroughly clear all corrosion and debris with the use of powerful chemicals. The industrial chemicals can remove rust, sludge, lime scale, and other debris. The entire process should take anywhere from five to eight hours depending on the number of radiators that you have and how severe the blockages may be.

Will the Power Flush system cause a mess?

While our pipes are connected to your central heating system, the dirty part of the Power Flush process happens outside. There is no need to remove your radiators as our process can complete the flush with the radiators in place.

A corrosion inhibitor is applied to prevent any further rusting in the future. Once the flushing process is complete, our Gas Safe registered engineers ensure that the system contains fresh clean water. This will be free of acid or chemicals. At this point, your central heating system should be restored to normal operation within a few minutes.
